• Eligibility: The ‘Schoolscape Innovator of the Year Award’ competition is open to all educators, school IT managers, school IT decision-makers, and other school personnel involved in IT innovation within their school who have attended our 2025 events. Participants must be employed with a registered educational institution in South Africa.
• Competition Period: The competition submission period begins on 27 February 2025 and ends on 31 October 2025. Submissions received after the closing date will not be considered or will be up to the discretion of Schoolscape.
• Prize: The winner of the ‘Schoolscape Innovator of the Year Award’ will receive a fully sponsored trip to the BETT Education Conference in London in 2026, which includes:
  • Return economy flights to London from one of Cape Town, Joburg or Durban International Airports. Flights might require a stopover.
  • Accommodation in London for the duration of the conference (4 nights accommodation).
  • Daily travel and food allowance to cover basic expenses during the trip (the amount to be determined by the competition organisers).
  • Visa costs, if applicable.
• Prize Award Ceremony: The ‘Schoolscape Innovator of the Year Award’ will be presented to the winner in an acceptable time before BETT to allow enough time for preparations to be made.
• Submission Guidelines:
  • Submissions must highlight innovation within the school and its positive impact on teaching, administration, or learning.
  • Initial submissions can be a video recorded at a Schoolscape event.
  • Follow-up submissions will be required for selected parties.  These entries can be in the form of a multimedia presentation (e.g. Canva design, video, PPT) and should not exceed 4 minutes in length. These submissions can be directly emailed to the Schoosclape email address.
  • All submissions must be original work and should not infringe on any third-party copyrights or intellectual property rights.
• Judging Criteria:
  • Creativity and Originality: Uniqueness and inventiveness of the IT innovation.
  • Impact and Effectiveness: Positive changes brought about by the IT innovation in the school.
  • Scalability and Sustainability: Potential for replication in other educational settings and long-term viability.
  • Pedagogical Value or Effective Administration: Alignment with educational goals and enhancement of teaching, learning, or school administration.
  • Overall Presentation: Organization, clarity, and visual appeal of the submission.
• Judging Process: 
• All entries received will be evaluated by the Schoolscape team: the top entries (according to the Judging Criteria) will proceed to the next stage. These entries will be edited by our video team & placed online on our voting platform where school staff can vote for their favorite entries. The top 5-10 voted entries will proceed to the final stage. In the final stage our Schoolscape Gurus will deliberate & choose the winner based on voting.
• Voting element: A voting element of the competition will be implemented where school staff can vote and help Schoolscape identify the top entries. Entry videos that has passed the first round, as decided by the Schoolscape team will be professionally edited and added to the Schoolscape website where the public can view it and school staff can vote on their favorite entries. By entering the competition all participants give full consent for their video/entry to be displayed in this fashion.
• Intellectual Property: By submitting an entry, participants grant Schoolscape non-exclusive rights to use, share, and reproduce the multimedia presentation for promotional and educational purposes. The intent is to share this content with other schools so they can learn from it and be inspired.
• Publicity: The winner and finalists agree to cooperate with Schoolscape in promotional activities related to the competition, including media interviews, press releases, and social media promotion.
• Permission for Marketing Purposes:
  • By submitting an entry to the ‘Schoolscape Innovator of the Year Award’ competition, participants grant Schoolscape the non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, distribute, and display the multimedia presentation and its content in all media and formats, whether now known or hereafter developed, for marketing, promotional, educational, and any other purposes related to the competition, without further compensation or notification to the participant.
  • Participants expressly permit Schoolscape to use their name, likeness, photograph, school name, and any other identifying information in conjunction with the multimedia presentation for marketing and promotional materials, including but not limited to websites, social media platforms, press releases, and print materials.
  • Schoolscape shall have the right to use the submitted multimedia presentation and any related materials in perpetuity, even if the participant’s entry does not win or if the participant withdraws their submission after the closing date.
  • By entering the competition, participants acknowledge and agree to grant the above permissions for marketing purposes as specified in this section. Participants also confirm that they have obtained any necessary consents or permissions from individuals featured in the multimedia presentation, especially if they are not of legal age or if their image or likeness is being used in any promotional materials.
• General Terms:
  • Participation in the competition implies acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  • Buddies/Contacts provided will be communicated with via email and or WhatsApp & you consent to this.
  • Schoolscape reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not comply with the rules or fails to meet the eligibility criteria.
  • The decision of the judging panel is final and cannot be appealed.
  • Schoolscape reserves the right to modify or cancel the competition if necessary, and such changes will be communicated to participants.
  • If the BETT education is cancelled in 2026, the competition prize will not be granted.
• Data Protection: Personal information collected during the competition will be used solely for the purpose of administering the competition and will be handled in accordance with relevant data protection regulations.
• Governing Law: The competition and these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of South Africa.

By participating in the ‘Schoolscape Innovator of the Year Award’ competition, you agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions and any decisions made by the organizers.
