About Romy’s Innovation
Romy Jordan, a passionate Grade 4 teacher from South Africa, believes learning should be meaningful, personal, and future-focused. Her innovation brings this philosophy to life by transforming lessons into immersive experiences.
When teaching grid referencing, instead of relying on worksheets, Romy turned to Minecraft Education, giving her students a dynamic, playful environment where they learned to navigate using coordinates, collaborate, solve problems, and reflect on their strategies. What began as a simple game became a powerful tool for 21st-century learning skills like creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and metacognition.
Her approach shows that innovation in education doesn’t always require big technology; it starts with bold ideas and the question: “How can I make this more meaningful today?”
